Ultracentrifugal studies of lipoproteins of human serum.
In spite of several extensive ultracentrifugal studies of human sera by Mutaenbecher, McFarlane, and Pedersen, the interpretation of the patterns observed has remained in doubt. Specifically, the greatest difficulties encountered by previous workers have arisen in their efforts to study undiluted human sera. McFarlane (1) referred to marked distortions in the pattern observed with undiluted hum...

متن کاملLipid composition of human serum lipoproteins.
1. The lipid compositions of the low-density lipoproteins, the high-density lipoproteins and the ultracentrifugal residue of human serum are presented, with emphasis on certain lipoprotein classes and lipid components not previously described. 2. Except for the lipoproteins with the lowest and highest densities, there is a trend for stepwise successive increase or, respectively, decrease in the...
متن کاملStudies on Human Serum High Density Lipoproteins
Human serum apolipoprotein A-I (ape-A-I), the major protein component of the human serum high density lipoproteins, was studied in aqueous solutions of differing ionic strengths and pH by the techniques of sedimentation equilibrium ultracentrifugation and frontal analysis gel chromatography. The ultracentrifugal studies indicate that apo-A-I is a self-associating system that is dependent upon p...
متن کاملRemoval of non-specific serum inhibitors of haemagglutination of rubella virus by treatment with dodecylamine-gel.
The suitability of using dodecylamine-gel for removing the serum non-antibody-like inhibitors of haemagglutination by rubella was studied. Compared with kaolin and MnCl2/heparin treatment this new procedure appears to have a higher specificity since it removes the non-antibody-like inhibitors from serum without affecting the immunoglobulin level significantly. The potential application of this ...
